Over the past few weeks as the lockdown has been keeping us inside, and spending a little more time reading emails we would normally delete without even reading, a few have caught my eye... and I'll be adding to them as time goes by. There has been little flurry of activity online recently of people complaining the Google AdWords doesn't work, that it's a scam, and that Google have got us all hoodwinked into thinking that if you're in business you must be running an online advertising campaign. The evidence for this seems to boil down to the same fundamental argument in most cases - "I've had so many dozens/hundreds/thousands of clicks to my website and not a single sale/form completion/phone call." The conclusion? It's Google. There is a saying... which I imagine is based on truth, although I have no personal experience... You can lead a horse to water, but you can 't make it drink. The same is true of website visitors...
I know… that reads like pure link bait. It’s not. It’s a serious question. I’m not talking about everything Google does; they’re not the worlds richest company for nothing. I’m talking about the Google AdWords platform. Here’s why I ask the question. There are many, many people generating phenomenal business through Google AdWords. Companies like Amazon and Expedia simply can’t spend money fast enough. Affiliate marketers can flip customers faster than a 50 year old short order cook can flip burgers. But because of this everyone – and I mean everyone – who is in business at one time or another is looking at “spending some money on Google ads”. Let’s think about that for just a moment. This is probably historical. Everyone knows someone, who knows someone, who built an empire on the back of a few dollars spent with Google...
Well, that's frustrating. We have a client with whom we have been discussing RLSA - remarketing lists for search ads. For those who have not yet tried RLSA, we have found it very effective for some clients - being able to catch previous site visitors (people on our remarketing lists) if they initiate a new search on Google. Let's face it - we know they are, on the one hand, still in the market and on the other, presumably, given the fact that time has passed since their first visit, they are also more motivated to complete their conversion (purchase, sign up, contact request) than they were the first time around. So we like RLSA. We also listen to the recommendations from Google...
